Never Underestimate A Southern Belle

2 a.m.

Alexandra lay still in the darkness, listening to the rhythmic ticking of the antique clock, staring out through the wall of windows across from her bed at the crescent moon and pin-dots of stars that filled the sky.     It was 2 a.m. and sleep was eluding her, as she couldn't push the memories of her recent conversations with Doug from her mind.

They both knew they were two halves of a whole, incomplete without the other, but separated by fate's cruel irony.     Now, alone in the darkness, Alex couldn't stop the flood of memories the years had accumulated.     Was Doug thinking of her now, too?     She remembered another night -- with such a similar sky -- when they had spent the entire night underneath the stars, talking . . . so intently . . . as the sun would never dare to rise and break the connection of that night.

Doug had been a part of Alex's life longer than he had not been.     She could scarcely remember when he wasn't there.     How could two people experience so much together yet still be forced to be apart?

Alex stared out into the darkness in sadness, not out of regret, because she did not regret one single moment she and Doug had spent together -- but, sadness for all of the moments that they had spent apart.     Fate had found instances through the years to be kind.     Would fate show kindness once again?

She thought of how she viewed this compartmentalized segment of her life . . . and she knew -- logically -- that life is too short to deny happiness -- whether out of fear, or some other ancient baggage that is carried.     At some point, there has to be a willingness to "let-go" to find what was meant to be.     But, could she?     And, would he?

Many of the entries you will read in this blog were originally published under my alter-ego (pictured above) during the last eighteen-plus months.    Sometimes we realize that what began as one thing mutates into something else entirely.    Therefore, I wanted to salvage my previously published works on a site that was strictly controlled by me.    I hope you will enjoy at least some of what you read, and will leave your comments along the way.    Thanks for your indulgence.

When a Writer’s integrity and a Site’s standards ultimately end up at diametrically opposite ends of the spectrum, it is time for the Writer to sever the association if the Writer hopes to maintain their reputation as a legitimate Writer.

"To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong." ~ Joseph Chilton Pierce

"Art, like morality, consists in drawing a line somewhere" ~ Gilbert Chesterton (1874-1936)

"This kind of certainty comes but once in a lifetime." ~ 'Robert Kincaid' [TBOMC]

"Love that we cannot have, Is the one that lasts the longest,
Hurts the deepest, And feels the strongest!" ~ Unknown

And, on that final note, I will (once again) leave you with a very wise quote from Oscar Wilde ...
"Do you really think it is weakness that yields to temptation?
I tell you that there are terrible temptations which it requires strength, strength and courage, to yield to."
